The Major Arcana forms the heart of the tarot deck.

While every card in tarot has wisdom to offer, the Major Arcana represents life's biggest lessons, turning points, challenges, and moments of growth. These are the cards that speak to the deeper currents beneath everyday events—the experiences that shape who we become.

In traditional tarot there are 22 Major Arcana cards, beginning with The Fool and ending with The World.

Together, they tell a symbolic story often called The Fool's Journey.

What Is the Major Arcana?

Think of the Major Arcana as a map of personal growth.

Each card represents a lesson, stage of development, or significant life experience. Rather than predicting the future, these cards invite us to reflect on where we are now, what we are learning, and what wisdom may help us move forward.

In the Waratah Witch Tarot, the Major Arcana is viewed through the lens of Australian bush wisdom. Just as the landscape changes through drought, flood, fire, and renewal, so too do we move through seasons of challenge, growth, reflection, and transformation.

No stage is permanent.

Every lesson serves a purpose.

Every ending creates space for a new beginning.

The Fool's Journey.

The story begins with The Fool.

The Fool stands at the beginning of the path, filled with curiosity, hope, and possibility. They do not know exactly where the journey will lead—and that's precisely the point.

As the journey unfolds, The Fool encounters teachers, challenges, relationships, victories, setbacks, moments of reflection, and opportunities for transformation.

They learn from:

  • The Magician's confidence and action

  • The High Priestess's intuition

  • The Empress's nurturing abundance

  • The Emperor's structure and leadership

  • The Hermit's wisdom and solitude

  • Death's transformative power

  • Temperance's balance

  • Judgement's awakening

  • The World's completion and fulfilment

Each card represents a lesson we all encounter in our own lives.

Why Do Major Arcana Cards Feel So Significant?

When a Major Arcana card appears in a reading, it often points to something deeper than a temporary situation.

These cards frequently appear when:

  • A major life lesson is unfolding

  • Personal growth is taking place

  • A significant decision needs reflection

  • Old patterns are being challenged

  • A new chapter is beginning

  • You are being invited to see the bigger picture

That doesn't mean dramatic events are guaranteed.

Sometimes the most profound transformations happen quietly, beneath the surface, like roots growing unseen beneath the bush after rain.

The Major Arcana in the Waratah Witch Tarot.

The Waratah Witch Tarot reimagines these timeless archetypes through Australian landscapes, native wildlife, botanical symbolism, and bush wisdom.

Throughout the deck you'll find:

  • Waratahs representing resilience and growth

  • Bush tracks symbolising life's journey

  • Native animals acting as guides and teachers

  • Moonlit landscapes reflecting intuition and cycles

  • Australian seasons woven into the lessons of each card

Every card tells a story that feels rooted in the Australian landscape while remaining connected to the traditional wisdom of tarot.

There Are No "Good" or "Bad" Cards.

One of the biggest misconceptions about tarot is that some cards are positive while others are negative.

In truth, every Major Arcana card contains both a lesson and an opportunity.

Cards such as Death, The Tower, or The Devil often make beginners nervous, yet these cards frequently bring some of tarot's most valuable wisdom.

The bush teaches us that change is natural.

Old growth falls so new growth can emerge.

Storms clear the air.

Fire creates space for regeneration.

Tarot works much the same way.

Every card has something important to teach.

A Little Waratah Wisdom.

The Australian bush is never the same from one season to the next.

Some years bring rain. Some bring drought. Some bring fire. Yet life continues to adapt, grow, and begin again.

The Major Arcana reminds us that our lives move through seasons too.

You don't need to rush the journey.

You don't need to have all the answers.

Like The Fool standing at the beginning of the path, sometimes all you need is the courage to take the next step.

The rest of the story unfolds one lesson at a time.
